Rodarte Spring 2011

Hello long lost readers!

So, I’ve been MIA for the past few weeks, and for that, I apologize. The holidays are a whirlwind of jolly good times, yet every year it becomes more and more apparent that there’s also a pretty stiff cocktail of mass chaos & stressful ordeals mixed in. That being said, I don’t think I’m alone in being thankful that another holiday season is behind us! So please join me in cheers-ing to 2011 once more!

If you haven’t noticed, I’m letting the “2010 holiday hairstyle” posts die with 2010. I’m still keeping my word on giving you 5 wonderful hairstyles to lean on, but these last two are engineered perfectly for what’s ahead–Spring 2011!

The swoop is one of my favs from the Spring 2011 runway. It’s chic, girly, super-easy, and will work with ANY texture or length of hair!

Step One: To create that deep side-part, drag a perfectly straight line from your forehead to the crown with the end of a tail comb [see below for my favorite picks]. The best way to measure how deep this part should be is to look at your eyebrows. The most flattering level will begin directly above the arch of your brow. If you’re not comfortable going that dramatic, move it over a bit toward midline. Be careful though– being too safe will kill this look. The deep part is what adds the iconic volume to the swoop.

RUNWAY: Mason Pearson Tail Comb, $20, available at Barneys New York.

MY WAY: ULTA Pin Tail Comb, $2.29, ULTA. Click here to find an ULTA retailer near you.

Step Two: Brush the larger part (future swoop) forward with either a brush or your tail comb and spritz a quick burst of hairspray over the top.

RUNWAY: L’Oreal Elnett Extra StrongHold Hairspray, $14.99, available at Target. This gem was previously only available in Europe, but thanks to the ever-accommodating Target, we can grab it here now!

MY WAY: Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray, about $4, available at your local grocery and drug store.

Step Three: “Swoop” hair to the opposite side of the part, providing a tad bit of slack for volume, and secure with a pretty accessory. Bobby pins will also work to secure hair in place, and may be needed for extra hold with flimsy hardware, but why be plain when you can make a statement?! Embellished barrettes, decorative pins, delicate floral pieces and lace accents all work well for this little number. The list doesn’t stop here though!
