When It Comes To Makeup, I’m a…

A whopping 50% of you describe yourselves as makeup minimalists. You’re comfortable in your own skin. You enjoy looking put together, but would prefer to be remembered by your fabulous personality & natural beauty, rather than your lipstick shade. Our favorite thing about you: You use beauty products to enhance your features, not cover them up…

Well minimalists, you’re in luck. This season’s runways were jam-packed with designers evoking the same mentality. (Think Ralph Lauren, see below). Dewy, evenly toned skin, natural lips, an “I just jogged around the block for a quick second” blushed cheek, and an eyeshadow that contours but doesn’t distract, are all features that make us lust for minimalism.

Use TRD’s customized make-up guide for this season’s sexiest barely-there look…

Skin: Start off with a moisturizer. If your skin is clear, try a tinted moisturizer with an SPF built-in. We recommend Bobbi Brown Extra SPF 25 Tinted Moisturizing Balm, $50, BobbiBrown.com. If you’ve got great skin to start with, this moisturizer has just what you need: a slight tint & an array of luscious ingredients, like shea butter, to boost your skin’s vitality. If you need a bit more coverage, try Sue Devitt Hydrating Marine Minerals Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15, $40, Barneys.com or SueDevittBeauty.com. It’s sheer like your best moisturizer, but hides flaws like a foundation.

Lips: Exfoliate your lips well before applying any sort of color. Try Fresh Brown Sugar Lip Polish, $22, Sephora.com. Next, stick with a tone of gloss that most closely matches your natural lip color. [TIP: Bring a makeup compact with a mirror when you buy. Compare one coat of the gloss on the back of your hand with your true lip color. Matching the entire tube to your lip won’t give you a very accurate assessment.] An overall great sheer nude, YSL Gloss Pur # 47 Pure Peach, $30, sephora.com

Cheeks: When working with a dewy palate, stick to cream blush or a cheek & lip tint. Powder blush will seem cake-y if you aren’t careful… and who has time for careful? Choose a color that compliments your skin and that is a good mix of peach, pink, and bronze tones to keep it at a natural flush. Our all-time favorite, Benefit’s Posietint & Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain, both $28, BenefitCosmetics.com.

Eyes: To cap off your natural-chic look, choose an eyeshadow with a bronze hue that is no more than 3 or 4 shades darker than your skin. Brown eyes can usually get away with going a bit darker, but you blue-eyed babes need to stick to more sheer pigments. The key in applying here is to add dimension without taking the focus away from your eyes. Leave your lids bare (or swipe a matched skin tone beige over them), and concentrate on the crease. If you need help with where to apply, see HERE. Limit shadow to the outer half of your crease & a quick sweep (using a thin brush) under those outer few lower lashes. Finish off with two coats of your favorite mascara.

For an added screen-goddess glow, apply a bronze highlighter to the bridge of your nose &  across the top of your cheek bones. Benefit’s Moon Beam, $24, gives skin back that glimmer of youthfulness.
